Ever watched a movie, TV programme, or been on the net and thought, I’ve got a better idea than that!

A good idea for a film, TV/website series or an advertisement, can come from anywhere!

But what do you do next when you have those great idea?..... You MUST have to the ability to pitch it to the people who matter, THE PRODUCERS.

Refining and defining a pitch is a process of discovering the potential and the heart of your idea and conveying it to others in a concise and exciting way. Within an allotted time frame!

If you have an idea, or would like to get your creative juices flowing, come and talk to the insiders – they’ll let you in on how it’s done. Discuss new ideas, and how stories, films and TV series are developed.

Our panel features :
Producer/Director - Marc Gracie and
Comedian/Producer/Writer - Tim Ferguson.

Marc has been a screen creator for three decades; his credits include feature films The Craic and Takeaway as well as television programs such as Full Frontal and The Adventures of Lano and Woodley.

Comedian/Producer, Tim Ferguson was part of the ground breaking – new era of funny men group, The Doug Anthony All Stars, for several years. When the group went their separate ways this lead to a variety of television performances, as well personal appearances and a host of corporate roles.

As a writer, performer and producer Tim has enjoyed an extensive career both in front of and behind the camera; from his early work as part of the feature Circle Work, to the 'how to' manual for comedy, The Cheeky Monkey to much acclaim.

This is a FREE event.

THE WOMEN ON THE SIXTH FLOOR (Fr) PG 102 mins. It's Paris in 1962. Jean-Louis a wealthy stockbroker. (Fabrice Luchini) lives a staid existence with his socialite wife (Sandrine Kiberlain). When the maid leaves, into the residence comes Maria (Natalia Verbeke), a young, hardworking, Spanish, beauty. Jean-Louis finds a new and enchanting world of music, mayhem, and the joie de vivre of the other Spanish servants on the sixth floor. Their simple and hardworking lives hide a love of life, to which Jean Louis responds.
Phillipe le Guay’s light French comedy is a simple joy.

THE ARTIST & HUGO This Winter Weekend

Urgent Correction regarding this Weekend’s Films in Port Fairy:  

The Oscar winning film “The Artist” screens at  1.00 and 7.30pm on Friday at the Reardon Theatre in Port Fairy.

At 1.30pm only on Sunday it is Martin Scorcese’s Hugo, not The Descendants.

Acclaimed Cold War spy thriller screens in Port Fairy

A CLASSIC tale of espionage and intrigue comes to south-west screens for the first time tomorrow.

Port Fairy Film Society will host two screenings of Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy at the Reardon Theatre, with a matinee at 1pm and a night showing from 7.30pm.

The film is an adaption of John le Carré’s Cold War thriller about a Soviet mole in the British secret service and spy George Smiley’s efforts to uncover the mole.

Turned into a successful mini-series in 1979 starring Alec Guinness as Smiley, this big-screen version maintains the Cold War setting and stars Gary Oldman as Smiley.

Oldman was nominated for a best actor Academy Award for his turn — one of three Oscar nominations Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy received.

The film also stars Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones and John Hurt.

Port Fairy Film Society is screening the 1944 musical Meet Me In St Louis as part of its classic matinee series on Tuesday from 1.30pm.

Other future screenings for the group include fund-raiser showings of the Oscar-winning movie The Descendents on May 4 and the romance Letters To Juliet on May 15.

Corangamite Film Society continues its season on May 3 with a double bill featuring Australian drama Eye Of The Storm and French thriller Hidden. They screen from 7pm at the Killara Centre.

This month's screening happens this Friday, 20th of April, at 1pm a matinee and at 7.30 pm an evening screening.

It is the brilliant Spy thriller  Tinker Taylor Soldier Spy

Based on John Le-Carre’s  novel , Tomas Alfredson has brilliantly remade spy thriller set in the 1970’s at the height of the Cold War. George Smiley (Gary Oldman), a disgraced British spy, is rehired in secret by his government - which fears that the British Secret Intelligence Service, has been compromised by a double agent working for the Soviets.   Could it be Alleline (Toby Jones), Haydon (Colin Firth), Bland (Ciarán Hinds), Estherhase (David Dencik) – 5 Stars,

Phillip French & Peter Bradshaw, The Guardian

Oldman is superb as the ever-present Smiley (portrayed by Alec Guinness in the 1979 TV series), while Colin Firth shows great presence as the elegant, confident Bill Haydon, code-named Tailor. The fact that the physicality of

the actors is so different works in the film's favour with Toby Jones as good as ever as the smarmy Percy Alleline (Tinker) and Ciaran Hiands's large features are imposing as Roy Bland (Soldier). But they are not the only rotten apple contenders. For maximum enjoyment, do not expect a run-of-the-mill thriller with linear storytelling and a simple resolution. There is far more complexity to absorb.

Le Carré is a master of the genre and under Alfredson's dense direction, the revitalisation of this classic is elevated to new heights as well as a new audience. (Louis Keller cited in Rotten Tomatoes)

 "In  Swansea, Wales, in the mid-1980s, before the advent of mobile  phones and social networks, 15-year-old Oliver, CRAIG ROBERTS, lives with his parents in an ordinary street in an ordinary part of  town. 

His Dad, Lloyd, NOAH TAYLOR, is a marine biologist who  suffers from depression; his mother, Jill, SALLY HAWKINS, seems  frustrated with her life, and Oliver gets very upset when he thinks his Mum is spending too much time with Graham, PADDY CONSIDINE, a New Age guru and former boyfriend of his mum.

 Oliver, meanwhile, has fallen in love with a girl at school, Jordana, YASMIN PAIGE, who has definite ideas about how high school courtships should proceed." 4 stars *****

 This movie is the work of first time debut feature director Richard  Aoyade and is a small but beautifully made film that looks at the common themes of adolescence but is carried out in an original and often quirky way. The film is rated M and goes for 97 minutes.
